History of ESOSLI

First steps of ESOSLI

ESOSLI was invented by students from Zwickau, Germany, as a semester project. Before 2012 the German students of Signlanguage and Deaf studies took turns organising meetings for all students, with the goal to have more contact between students of the different Universities of Applied Sciences. During those meetings they took part in workshops, lectures and presentations specific about Signlanguage and Signlanguage Interpreting to get more knowledge about our future field of work.

Instead of organising a national meeting, they decided it would be a great experience to make it a European event so it would be possible to exchange knowledge about the way the different studyprogrammes are build up, about similarities and differences, the profession itself in all European countries.

Their decision worked out great, with around 350 students from many different countries, and great people to give lectures.

In Zwickau 2012 a group of 6 Dutch Signlanguage Interpreting students took part to ESOSLI I. They were very enthusiastic about the whole atmosphere of the conference and the fact that so many European students got together to learn new things and share experiences.

For that reason they went to the workshop "The future of ESOSLI" and requested to organize the conference in 2014.

Then 2014

Dianne, Samantha, Renée and Wieteke did a great work organizing the second ESOSLI. Utrecht, Netherlands offered a great spot for the conference.

Theme for year 2014 was "working together", lectures based on that certainly gave participants a lot to think about.

Girls had planned many interesting workshops so it was hard to choose in which to sign up. You could notice that they had really use lot of time to make this conference unforgettable.

Other activities like city tour, in many different languages was well organized also. And lets not forget sign party with amazing atmosphere. I could praise that conference a lot more, but lets focus in the future now.

Utrecht gave good base and idea how to make ESOSLI conference with success, so lets see how finnish students take over in this one :)
